Green River Fishing Report

June 27, 2002

The Green River near Pinedale has kicked into high gear with fishing ranging from OK on the slow days to very good on the good days.

Water conditions are still high and slightly off color, but the abundance of hatches has the trout looking up. And when they aren't taking dries, nymphs and streamers have been effective.

Depending on exactly where you go make sure you're prepared to handle hatches of salmon flies, golden stones, various mayflies (no Gray Drakes yet) and a host of smaller stoneflies.

Recommended fly patterns include Parachute Adams, Parachute Hare's Ear, Stimulators, Turck Tarantulas in red and yellow (size 10), Schroeder's Golden Parastone and whatever your favorite salmon fly pattern is.

During certain periods of the day the trout have been a little reluctant to rise, but dropping a beadhead Prince off a large dry has been quite effective during those times. So have streamers such as JJ Specials. If the water is deep make sure you're getting your streamer pretty deep too.

We expect the fishing to only improve over the next several weeks as the water drops and clears. Start looking for Grey Drakes in the near future and best of luck.

Until next time...
