Green River Fishing Report

April 10, 2004

As with Yellowstone, the Upper Green has been receiving unseasonably mild weather. With the low-lying snow cover melting the river has gone off in color. Despite the off-colored conditions the river has been fishing reasonably well. Though the dry fly fishing has been spotty, nymph and streamer fishing has been somewhat steady.

The Green below Flaming Gorge has been fishing quite well. The Blue Wing Olives (Baetis) hatch has been going on for a couple of weeks now, and the dry fly fishing has been very consistent. The Gorge can have hellacious spring storms. Being prepared with suitable clothing and equipment which can be a godsend. Many times these storms can make the dry fly fishing incredible, but when it doesn’t - be backed-up with small nymphs and streamers. Here’s a tip: On those off days try a JJ Special. You might be pleasantly surprised.
