Country Flies Guided Fishing Trips |
Recommended Equipment for HCF Guided Fishing Trips
In addition to your personal fishing gear, we advise bringing the following items on all guided fishing trips:
- Polarized sunglasses (as much for eye protection as anything)
- Sunscreen and lip balm
- Fishin' hat (again, as much for protection from wayward flies as anything)
- Fishing License
- Rain jacket (and pants if you have them)
- Extra warm clothing (wool and/or fleece work best)
Fishing at high altitude with water reflecting direct sunlight can result in intense sun exposure. Plan accordingly, especially if you have fair skin. The sunglasses and hat are first, to protect the eyes and head area from hooks, but will also help you see better.
Unpredictable mountain weather can change faster than a politicians policy position following the latest opinion poll. Though you may be able to start the day in shorts and T-shirt, never assume you will be able to finish the day in the same attire. Always bring foul weather gear.
Other useful items include:
- River sandals (for hot days)
- Chest waders (more for rain than wading)
- Cameras
- Wading staff
- Fingerless gloves
Cleated wading shoes are not appropriate for driftboat fishing. They can be extremely slippery in a fiberglass bottomed boat.
