JJ Special

JJ Special
Hook: Tiemco 5263 or Dai-Riki 710, sizes
2-10
Thread: 3/0 Black
Tail: Brown marabou feather topped with yellow marabou
feather topped with copper Krystal Flash
Body: Brown chennile
Hackle: Grizzly saddle
Legs: Yellow rubber, medium or large
Tying Tips
- Start by wrapping some lead around the front half of the hook shank to help give the fly a jigging action
- Use two strands of yellow rubber. Separate them after tying the fly if desired.
Fishing Tips
- This pattern is most effective when fished on a floating line and longish leader with a jigging (up and down) motion
- If the trout are moving to the fly but not taking, use a smaller size
- Though the JJ Special will catch any trout, it is especially effective for browns and cutthroats
- Though brown & yellow are the original, and overall most effective colors, many color combinations are possible and sometimes more effective. Try replacing all yellow materials with red.
